Adobe Photoshop Mutant: Curgax
Critical C's
Concept
This project appealed to me because it's something I have never tried before and it sounded kind of fun. I disliked this project because I'm not very good at this kind of stuff in Photoshop and so I was scared it would turn out looking stupid. It might not be apparent to the audience viewing that the background wasn't the original background with the turtle picture.
Composition
I used the elements of value and shape, and the principles of unity and movement in my composition. When I look at my artwork I would say that it is a personal reflection/statement because it is made up of animals that I like. The most dominant principle I used is unity because I worked really hard on making it look like one unified animal, and it effects the composition by hopefully doing that. I used Adobe Photoshop.
Craftsmanship
After I understood the assignment I developed the idea by searching for different animals on Google Images. For my preplanning process I looked at all these animals and decided which ones I wanted and then chose pictures I thought would combine well. To make the art, I cut the turtle out of the background and then erased its head. Then I found a background picture to use and made it my background. I cut the cat's head out of its picture and put it on the turtle, using the gradient and eraser tools to make it blend. Then I cut the giraffe's tail out of its picture and did the same thing. I cut the addax horn out and placed in on the cat's head. I cut the goat's beard out and placed it on the cat's chin. A problem I encountered was making it all blend together, but I used the eraser and gradient tools to fix that.
Creativity
I was pretty committed to this project, I worked on it everyday. I moved beyond just what the teacher asked of me by adding some text effects to the text. New technique I used was using the gradient tool with a mask. Old technique I used was doing the text effects. I related to this project because it's with animals that I like.
Completeness
I changed my artwork by flipping the way the beard was facing because everyone said it looked better. I reflected on the elements of value when I used the gradient and eraser tools and shape when I cut things out. I reflected on the principles of unity when I tried to make it all tie together and movement by using the horn/tail combo to draw attention to the animal and make the eyes "move" with them. I am somewhat proud of this artwork because I think it looks alright.
